Soundscape No. 1 is the first in a series of short works designed to challenge traditional roles. It is an experimental jazz work that explores the world of sound and texture within the big band context. Built entirely from triads paired in unconventional ways, the piece reimagines familiar harmony through colorful relationships and colorful voicings. The rhythm section focuses on color and texture rather than timekeeping, while the woodwinds and brass sustain evolving sonorities with freedom to crescendo and decrescendo at will—creating an open, immersive soundscape of shifting timbres and harmonic ambiguity.
