"Illumination" is a through-composed work in three contrasting moods, demanding skilled conducting and a rich woodwind palette. A three-note motif anchors the piece, looping in the piano beneath a soaring melody. A flute solo floats over improvised textures, leading to a baritone sax solo in a fresh, contrasting setting. A piano solo transitions into the final mood, where earlier themes reappear in a reflective light. With intricate textures and an evolving narrative, the piece offers a dynamic interplay of color, spontaneity, and depth.
